Shabbat

Friday Night

Bring Shabbat Shalom (Sabbath Peace) into your home every week through services from Temple Anshe Hesed either in person or via Zoom. Led by the rabbi and the cantorial soloist, our services create space for each worshipper to engage in the liturgy and find peace and meaning in the prayers.

The Shabbat Service on Friday night is the primary worshiping experience at Temple Anshe Hesed. Music that is both accessible and participatory enhances this service. We use both Hebrew and English in our liturgy and the Hebrew is transliterated for our non-Hebrew readers. At most of these services the Rabbi offers a topical sermon or an interpretation from the Torah portion or a guest speaker brings a unique talk on anything from sourdough bread to social justice. This service begins at 6:15 p.m. In the summer, the service is often held outside on our patio!

Saturday Morning

Saturday mornings Shabbat Services start at 10am followed by Torah study at 11 am and can be attended in person or virtually on Zoom.

During the summer, there is no Saturday morning service, but there is a virtual Torah study starting at 9:30 am.

Prayer and Participation

Our prayer book, Mishkan T’filah, includes English, Hebrew and transliteration. Regular size and large-print prayer books are available. All of our services are egalitarian.

Kippot and taleisim (prayer shawls) are available outside the sanctuary; however, they are not required.

The congregation cherishes the involvement of congregants in our services and creates ongoing opportunities for increased participation. Our youngest members learn to feel at home on the bimah during consecration in their first year of Religious School, and throughout their Religious School experience with grade-level, participatory Shabbat services.
